The Process

What to Expect

Every assessment follows the same four steps, so you always know what comes next. The exact testing time depends on the type of assessment, with psychoeducational assessments usually requiring two testing sessions.

1. Intake Interview

A 50-minute session, virtual or in-person, where we discuss your concerns, history, and goals, and confirm the right assessment for your situation.

2. Testing

Two to three hours of in-person testing is standard for most of our assessments. Psychoeducational assessments require six hours of testing, split across two testing sessions so you or your child is never overloaded in one sitting.

3. Feedback session

A 50-minute session, in-person or virtual, where we walk through the findings and recommendations together. You have an opportunity to ask questions and provide additional details before the assessment report is finalized.

4. Written report

After the feedback session, you are sent a detailed written report that summarizes important background information, testing results, diagnoses, and recommendations. You can provide this report to schools, colleges, universities, and other providers.

A Note on Invoicing for Children’s Assessments

When the client is a child, the child remains the primary client named on every invoice. Invoices are itemized by the type of professional time:

  • Direct testing time can list only the child, since the child is the only person present.
  • Intake and feedback sessions can also list any caregiver who attended, since those sessions involve the people who were present.
  • Scoring and report writing can note parents or caregivers as part of the work completed “in consultation with” them, while the child remains the primary client.

Insurance plans differ in how they handle assessment invoices and whose name they will reimburse for. Please confirm with your insurance provider before your assessment that your plan covers a child’s psychological assessment in this format.
